With steep increases in energy costs and a need to resource green energy, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is fast becoming the preferred approach with integration of solar PV into the building envelope.

The flexible nature of Flextron, together with its other attributes of Teflon such as coated self-cleaning top sheet, superior thermal degradation and light weight, make it truly a universal product with multiple applications for flat roof slopes or even barrel vault construction.

ULTRA-THIN AND FLEXIBLE SOLAR RENEWABLE ENERGY

Flextron is a flexible module with integrated solar cells. The modules feature solar cells made using CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) technology which allows them to be ultra-thin, in turn, making the modules themselves thin and flexible – 2.5mm! This is in contrast with traditional crystalline-based solar panels which are thicker and heavier.

Unlike traditional crystalline-based solar panels, Flextron modules do not need any sort of mounting system. This is not only a cost savings but, as well as the modules being inherently lightweight, there is no added weight due to the racking framework or ballast systems used on flat roofs. Increased load on the roof becomes less of an issue. Wind uplift does not need to be factored either because the modules essentially become part of the roofs itself.

Modules are available in three standard forms, 125w, 245w and 370w, but also available in non-standard sizes from 43w to 360w.

Flextron modules can be integrated onto an approved roofing materials (metals & non-metals) at an approved facility to create a roofing system that can be installed in the same way as a conventional roof or can be retro-fitted, with the modules delivered to site after the roof has been installed, ready to be bonded.

The fact that the Flextron system is woven into the fabric of the building itself, forming part of the roof, provides a contrasting aesthetic to conventional systems.

Flextron is the universal multi-purposed peel & stick flexible module. It is available in three standard forms; 120, 240 & 360 nominal Watts but also available in intermediate non-standard sizes from 43 to 360 Watts of nominal power rating.

It is available with junction boxes at the top or at the rear to suit design requirements. Flextron can be integrated onto multiple approved substrates (metals & non-metals) in controlled conditions either in BIPVco facilities or at an approved integrator facility.

GREENCOAT® COMPATABILITY WITH FLEXTRON SOLAR TECHNOLOGY

GreenCoat® is the brand of SSAB, with GreenCoat PLX being a flagship foldable steel suitable for intricate standing seam roofs. The modules are bonded directly to the metal surface, thereby avoiding the need to anchor on to the standing seam, with brackets and rail supporting heavier glass Crystalline PV panels.

Reducing the weight and subsequent wind load and avoiding the raised panels also remove the risk of debris build-up and vermin.
