Project Description

Aspext is located close to the Lea Valley, a short walk from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and its range of facilities. The area, known as Hackney Wick is a community full of culture undergoing a wealth of regeneration following the London 2012 Olympics and boasts an wide array of galleries, bars and restaurants. The apartment building, one of six individual buildings on the Wick Lane development provides a selection of one, two & three bedroom apartments.

The design incorporates Standing Seams at 200mm, 300mm, 400mm & 500mm centres in a random arrangement wrapping both the vertical façade and across the roof areas.

The bespoke coil slitting operations was undertaken by Metal Solutions Ltd and the standing seams systems with their various slits were installed on site beautifully by Conneely Group. The development of Hackney Wick has definitely benefited from the project and echoes the history and vibrant nature for a new generation where light industrial units, retail and workspaces co-located with 175 homes.

GreenCoat PLX RAL 6027, Glacial Green was selected as it offered the Architect the bespoke colour selection. A separate low level building on the site is clad and roofed using GreenCoat PLX Metallic Silver in a similar random seam layout.

The Requirements

The design of Wick Lane should incorporate Standing Seams at varying centers of 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, and 500mm in a random arrangement, wrapping both the vertical facade and roof areas. The design should aim to seamlessly integrate these elements to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and architectural coherence of the building.

GreenCoat PLX RAL 6027, Glacial Green have been selected for cladding and roofing respectively. The project should adhere to these material specifications to ensure consistency in appearance and performance.

Bespoke coil slitting operations for the standing seam components will be undertaken by Metal Solutions Ltd. The installation of the standing seam systems should be carried out by Conneely Group with precision and attention to detail to achieve the desired aesthetic and structural integrity.

Challenges

Incorporating Standing Seams at varying centers in a random arrangement across both the vertical facade and roof areas posed a significant challenge in terms of design integration. Ensuring seamless alignment and aesthetic cohesion while accommodating the diverse seam arrangement can be a required precise planning and execution.

Results

Wick Lane stands as a testament to successful urban regeneration and architectural excellence. By seamlessly integrating modern design elements with the rich cultural heritage of Hackney Wick.
